Dental sedation is a way of making you feel more at ease during treatment. It doesn’t put you to sleep like a general anaesthetic; you’re still conscious and able to talk with your dentist. Instead, it puts you into a deeply relaxed state, where you won’t feel any discomfort or pain.
-
Around 36% of adults have a fear of the dentist, according to research. And 12% of these suffer from extreme dental anxiety. So, if it’s something that affects you, you’re not alone. But being a nervous patient shouldn’t get in the way of your dental health and dental sedation can be a great way to allow you to see us for treatments to restore and maintian your best oral health.

ORAL SEDATION
Oral sedation in the form of anti-anxiety pills, is prescribed for relieving anxiety in patients in the hours immediately before a dental appointment. This will help you feel more at ease during your appointments.
INHALATION SEDATION
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”, is used most commonly in children for its anaesthetic and analgesic effects. It relaxes you and allows us to complete your treatment in a positive and comfortable way.
IV SEDATION
IV Sedation uses medications to help you cope with your fear and anxiety, and puts you at ease while undergoing dental treatment. The medications are administered intravenously, and the procedure is carried out by a healthcare professional specifically trained in this technique.
The professional staff at Dental Art will tailor your Nervous Patients’ Programme to your specific needs. Therefore any one, or all, the above methods may be used to make your experience at Dental Art as pleasant as possible.

Sedation isn’t just for invasive and complex procedures. You can also have it for more routine procedures like hygiene treatments or simple fillings.

After you’ve had sedation, and finished your treatment, you’ll recover in-practice to allow its effects to subside.
Your clinician will wait to ensure you feel fully recovered before discharging you.
We recommend not driving for 24 hours after sedation, and insist on you arranging for someone to pick you up, take you home and look after you for 24 hours.
You should also avoid exercise, operating any dangerous machinery, making any important decisions for 24 hours.
